SXSWi: iPhone apps and tips
In just three weeks I’ll be heading back to Austin, Texas for the South by Southwest Interactive conference. This will be my second year attending, and I’m starting to get my act together, using lessons learned from last year. One of them is to travel light. Lugging my MacBook around all day (even in an [...]

QR’d
Geeky me created a QR code to bring people directly to my website. I built it with Kaywa and I downloaded the i-nigma QR code reader on my iPhone. No real purpose to the thing, but thinking of maybe making stickers with QR codes on them for Basement Vinyl.

What I learned this summer
I took a bit of a Freelancer Vacation the past month or so (something I planned and executed before the term hit buzzword status .) I’ve been focusing on learning new skills, building up my business walls a bit, and sucking in information and ideas so I have more to stack my own skills and [...]

Reactions to reactions to BlogHer ’09 from one who wasn’t there
If you’re curious to read posts from people who attended BlogHer 2009, like I was, go here and click thru a few links. Overall, most seemed to have a great time! But there were some negatives relating to greed over swag, irritation with the in-your-face marketing and sponsorships, and whether babies belong at the parties [...]

BlogHer 2010 (yeah, you heard me, 2010)
The BlogHer ’09 conference is going on now in Chicago. I’ve been thinking of going to one since the very first (yes, I’ve been a member of BlogHer since the early days, albeit not a very active member… ‘cept for those ads over there –> ) But the timing, and the traveling, and the other [...]

Facebook: My Real Name Update
I get a lot of hits via search engines to this post, from (I assume) women wondering whether and how to add their maiden name to their Facebook profile. So I thought I’d add an update to let you know that Facebook has a new(ish) field in your account settings that lets you add an [...]

(Very) Random SXSWi highlights
As most of you know I finally traveled to Austin TX for the annual South by Southwest Interactive conference (SXSWi). I’ve been wanting to go since 2007 when, shortly after I joined Twitter, I started following social media types talking about the conference. Attending this year was a pretty last minute decision. It’s expensive, for [...]

On the road?
According to my host, Lunarpages, the server upon which this blog sits will be physically moved from LA to San Diego at some point today. I sure hope it doesn’t fall off the truck.

A little audio test
I’m teaching myself how to make an audio podcast. Unfortunately I’m having issues with my new Blue Snowball microphone. As in, it doesn’t work. Based on testing I’m pretty sure it’s just defective so I need to replace it. Meanwhile I downloaded an app for my iPhone called iTalk from Griffin, which lets me record [...]

A geeky Sunday at home
I’ve spent the day working on some personal projects, while I have some time before I dig into some new client work this week. The big one is Basement Vinyl, as I mentioned the other day. Don’t go running over, there’s still not much there to see, but I got a lot done under the [...]

Not at a conference this weekend…
This weekend a number of my social media compatriots are in Las Vegas at Blog World Expo, the largest US based social media/blogging convention there is. Others have headed to Québec to participate in PodCamp Montréal, a much smaller but still important “unconference.” Me? I’m at home cleaning out my son’s bedroom. I never really [...]

What to watch: the NYC web video scene
This past weekend the NY Times did a story on the active web video scene in New York City (as a part of the geek nightlife world.) Follow the links for the story and a slide show to better understand what I’m talking about, but here’s a bit from the feature: A debate about what [...]

Help wanted! :)
Can I post only to my blog, avoiding the public timeline and others’ inboxes entirely? I thought I used to be able to do that… Mobile post sent by banannie using Utterz. Replies.  mp3

Setting off Fireworks
Warning, heavy geekery to follow: I’m devoting the next few weeks to learning as much as I possibly can of Adobe CS3. I dropped way too much money on it, for work you know. In fact I have needed PhotoShop & Illustrator, but the rest of it, even Dreamweaver which I once lived by, I [...]
