Destiny 1997-2008

Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our dog Destiny (aka Desti, Dusty and Hey Dog!), described in my About page and by those who know her as The Cutest Dog In The World®. She had been sick for awhile, a tumor in her nasal passages, but she was still the same dog (a bit more sneezy.) But over this past weekend her immune system completely gave out.

Destiny was a sweet, silly playmate for the boys. She’d literally leap up into Pat’s arms each day when he came home from work. She was my constant companion when everyone else was gone all day, hanging out with me while I worked

or getting under my feet when I cleaned. She was the only other female in the house. Don’t laugh- that matters!

My dad asked if we could clone her. She’s been that awesome.

We went looking for a dog in 1997, shortly after I realized I was pregnant with Tim. I’d been patiently waiting for the right time to get one, and now we had a house and our third child on the way. It was the right time.

After looking at a few shelters we checked out a local shop that functions as a breeders rep. I’ve always loved cockapoos, had one as a kid, so when we saw this one we brought her into the playroom and bonded almost immediately. And almost as quickly, someone came in and took her back, saying they’d just received a phone call placing a deposit on her.

Sadly I handed her back over, but I left my number saying if another cockapoo came in I wanted to be called.

Later that evening the phone rang. It was the shop. The other buyer had canceled and if we wanted her she was ours. The next morning we were there when the doors opened, and named her Destiny because, well, it sure seemed appropriate.

It still does.

Well hello there, blog.

Summer is when my never-ending battle with time management takes a three month holiday. Surprisingly this has worked out quite well for me this season. Although things like posting to my blog were shunted aside, I’ve managed to keep up the forward momentum and get what needed to be done, done.

But these last two weeks before school starts are crazy. It’s the good kind of crazy that keeps me from wasting time away clicking around the interwebs or paging through catalogs of items I’ll never buy. Instead I’m methodically going down my to do list, checking things off, adding new items to the bottom, not letting them distract me from my mission. Obviously I’ve reached the item “post something, anything, to the blog!”

The past year has been one of exploration, testing the waters, seeing what works and what doesn’t. That’s the early adopter in me. But I’ve found that there’s a big drawback to spreading myself so thin- it takes away time I could spend using social media to socialize! It’s also stolen focus that I should be using to move forward.

Beginning in September I plan to have a more regular schedule of content here, plus a sprinkling of the random stuff. I’m trying to narrow my focus and gather my scattered internet presence into one basket. Maybe two. But I’ll be setting things up so most of the content I push out elsewhere ends up here. (Eventually. Because client work comes first, and I’m happy to say I have a bushel-load of clients for the moment.)

Meanwhile, here’s a blatantly symbolic photo of a sunrise taken with my iPhone :).
