The charming tomboy sidekick

The NY Times has a question:
Nancy Drew

The gist of the essay is that Nancy Drew had varying degrees of influence on the women who grew up reading the books, including the about to be confirmed Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

I only read a few – I think I owned one and read one or two others from the library. I never connected with Nancy. I never saw myself in her car, with her boyfriend and her amused father, investigating the neighbors… but I remember really liking her friend George, the tomboy. George took life less seriously. George kept Nancy’s Type A tendencies in check. George liked to be silly, have a good time.

Yep, my Nancy Drew was George.
