I didn’t buy much music this year. I mostly listen to the alternative stations on XM (RIP Fred, Ethel, & Lucy) and when I’m home I’ve become addicted to blip.fm, where I not only get to fulfill my deejay fantasies, but I get to hear the choices of my online friends as well.
So, I haven’t heard much new stuff. Sure, there was the Coldplay record, which was ok, but I’ve never been a huge Coldplay fan, and recently I think they’ve become more derivative (mostly of U2) than ever. There was Death Cab for Cutie’s Cath & MGMT with Time to Pretend, both strong rockers with great lyrics.
But Kings of Leon wins with the retro feeling Sex on Fire. Fuzzy guitars, passionate vocals, and, um, a hot singer…
What the heck, here are Death Cab for Cutie & MGMT, too .
