The week that was

Been a busy week! Lots I’d love to write about, but instead I’m cleaning the house and gathering ingredients for Thanksgiving, while also baking cookies to bring to a party tonight.

So rather than in depth blog posts about all these things, I’ll just give a quick run-down.

Saturday I headed into Brooklyn with friends Mike & Kera to meet up with yet more friends at the home of friends Rob & Amber. Photos on flickr. It was called “Angry Camp,” and there’s a story behind that but I don’t think anyone quite remembers what the story was. It’s really just a way for friends to get together without a PodCamp or conference as an excuse. I would have met none of these people were it not for Twitter & Seesmic.
It was a varied group. Some, like me, are married with kids. Others are single, or married without kids. We ranged in age from early 20s thru- me, I guess, the oldest at 45. It all illustrates the most important lesson I’ve learned from using Twitter, which filters out the surface details that make us different (age, marital status, race, sexual identity) letting only our inner voices through. All that surface stuff matters not. I’ve found like-minded friends in every demographic you could imagine, people I never would have even run across in real life. It’s truly an incredible thing and my life is richer for it.

Meanwhile, on Facebook, an explosion of people from my past. Classmates from high school and even elementary school have started joining and we’re finding each other. While it’s fun to hear from all of them, I’m most intrigued with my grammar school classmates, some of whom I haven’t seen in over 30 years. We went to a catholic school together through 8th grade, with very little turnover. Mostly the same kids all through the years. It’s fun to catch up in such an informal way, with people I really never expected to ever hear from again.

I dropped the ball on NaPodPoMo after 20 days. Just plain forgot the other day. Oh well. But good news- I’ve been contacted by Nokia to help test the new 6650 for a couple weeks and share my experiences with the universe on a Nokia site, as well as here there everywhere. It has assisted GPS that supposedly will talk me back home if I get lost. I should drive deep into the heart of Jersey and seen how it does.

Pat & I (mostly I) are working on our new blog/podcast Basement Vinyl. On hold a bit because of holiday prep and all the other stuff, but we’ll get it going. Oh yeah, a working mic would help too. Stay tuned for that!

Time to bake the cookies then head out for a night of card playing with friends!

That’s excellent about Nokia. I love my (relatively) new E71. My only complaint is that there aren’t a lot of apps for it and there doesn’t seem to be a central, organized place to find out about what IS available. Otherwise it’s grand, and I try to learn one new thing about what it can do every few days. The next thing on my list is video calls – w00t! :D
