Delayed gratification

This is one of those weekends that were made for relaxing with friends outside, firing up the barbecue, heading off to hang out at the pool.

Instead we’re building our new deck, and doing much-needed yard work.

The deck is coming along nicely. Pat, Andy, and Nick have been working on it whenever they have the time. Our old mudroom was rebuilt and painted, too, a little bonus for mw. The weather has really cooperated, and hopefully it will continue to do so for the rest of the week, because we have a deadline- Nick’s having a party Friday night.

With all the focus on the deck, basic yard upkeep hasn’t been done. Andy’s been mowing but not quite often enough. The weeds got a good foothold during construction of our addition last year, and now they’re running rampant. I’ve been busy with other projects and haven’t planted a single annual yet, so the front yard, while in decent shape, looks blah.

So today I’m out there whacking weeds, pouring weed-killer on the ones that survive that. I’m spreading mulch, and prepping to plant some flowers and bushes here and there. In fact, I shouldn’t be here writing about it, break time is over!

It’ll be worth it in a few weeks when we can sit out on our new deck relaxing with friends.

Good luck with the deck building! We don’t spend near enough time on ours as we should, but then again, it seems we’re never home! Now, get out there and kill some weeds and plant some flowers missy! hehe
