Among the fun things that’ve evolved in Twitter are assorted memes involving our avatars.
I’m pretty sure it started with Stripper Friday, and since then there’s been Hump Day, Monkey Day, um, Wombat Wednesday… the memes are flexible, interpret them anyway you like, as evidenced by my “Hump Day” avatar shown here. Honestly I’m not sure who’s been responsible for each of these or I’d give proper credit.
Today we’re doing “80’s me”. A while ago I scanned in a bunch of old photos. I don’t have a huge number of shots of myself during the 1980s, I was pretty camera shy. So there are no shots of “new wave” me that I could find, unfortunately. I’d love a shot of the night we went to see the B52s in Poughkeepsie, I was rockin’ a miniskirt, boots, biggish hair, and awesome plastic earrings.
Going through the shots to pick one for my avatar it struck me how much my life completely changed in the 80s. During the 1990s I was pretty much “mom”, living in suburbia, raising my kids. The locale changed but my “life”, not so much. But during the 1980s I went from a rebellious teen sneaking off to be with her boyfriend at any opportunity (among other “irresponsible” acts I won’t detail here!) to a college-educated married mom.

I think were are pretty deranged group on Twitter. Intent on violating the LOL at the office rule by comments and photos. It’s a good day when you open up that browser window and sit at your computer giggling at the silliness of this group.
I have always thought of Twitter as a running cocktail party where you bounce back and forth between people and conversations. Some conversations are just crazier than others I love being in the middle of it all.
:o)

I love your perspective on the fun side of Twitter. I think too often people over think the whole social media thing. While i do think tools like Twitter have value beyond just “fun”, isn’t that part of what the “social” in social media is all about?
I hope you dig up on of the “new wave” Annie’s!
While I did suggest and start this 80’s flashback Thursday, I actually stole the idea from Bill Streeter video podcasting guru from St. Louis

I moved to NJ in 1980 and out in 1990. How did I ever escape the big hair phase? But like you, it was a big decade for me–started it as a college student in New York state and ended as a suburban mom on her way to Kentucky. I never saw it coming!
Ahhh, the 80’s. I graduated from High School, went into the working world, got married and had a baby all before it was over. And I did have big hair, wore the jeans with the zippers and high heels, big belts and big button earrings! Those were the days!
