Deliver me

142406254_bb4cd35081_m.jpg I tried something new today, having my groceries delivered. I know a number of people who’ve done it and, while I wouldn’t say they’ve raved, they seem happy with the service. No problems with bad or bruised produce or nearly expired meats. There’s the occasional busted egg, but I hear that they’re quick to respond to complaints. Of course, my friends have good reason to not spend an hour or so in the supermarket: very young kids, long work hours. My schedule is completely my own.

I hate to shop for food, though. It did get a bit easier when I realized I could use the delivery service website to make up a list to print out and bring, and it even saves my previous purchases since I have it linked to my discount card. I just run down the list checking off what I need, print it out, and head to the store.

I quickly noticed, however, that the final tally of my purchases was usually at least $10 $20 more than the total on my list. When I’m in the store I tend to toss things into the cart that I don’t really need. Usually snack foods for the kids me.

Even though the delivery service charges $6.95 additional, I’m thinking I still might save money using it since I won’t be buying all those extras. I placed my order yesterday morning, plugged in a first-time user discount that covered the delivery fee, and saved another dollar by chosing a longer delivery window of 4 hours instead of 2. Shortly into that window, the truck pulled in. The driver was friendly, and gave me the first-time user rundown. A few items were substituted (I’d said ok to that when placing the order) but nothing major, and… one busted egg :). I could call and complain, but I figure one broken egg is a small price to pay.

Doing MILF at Walt Disney World

Get yer minds outta the gutter.

WDW is opening a new attraction based on Monsters Inc. It’s called Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor.

The Disney fan forums are having fun with that one already.

Making a difference costs 99 cents

I’m late to this party (not too late!) but this is pretty awesome. Bum Rush the Charts is an effort by a group of podcasters to get a specific independent song to the top of the iTunes chart on Thursday March 22. That’s tomorrow.

Why? Well, this is what the site says:

Podcasting gets little respect from traditional media. To them we’re little more than a joke, than amateurs. What they don’t understand is that podcasting is more than just a delivery mechanism - it’s a social movement. People are sick of the watered-down, cookie-cutter content that networks and record companies expect us to enjoy. People are tired of watching friends and loved ones get sued by record labels who only care about profits and nothing else, not even the artists they supposedly represent.

The RIAA is out of control. I’m a huge music fan and the mom of two teenage boys. It scares me to imagine that we could trigger a lawsuit simply by enjoying the music we love.
I rarely listen to regular, over the air radio anymore, it’s all podcasts. On those podcasts I’ve been introduced to a bunch of great new music. It reminds me of when I used to listen to college radio when mainstream radio started going corporate in the 1980s. In fact, when I was in highschool I wanted to be a DJ. By the time I was midway through college I’d lost that interest, because it was so… lame. Podcasting is starting to reignite that old interest in me! Who knows, maybe one of these days I’ll start a banannie podcast (about…?)

2k faces

I’ve joined the blogging community 2k Bloggers. It’s a pretty cool idea. My favorite part is the photo montage. They ask that you submit a photo of your face. Not an avatar or a picture of a kitten, but a picture of you. Then all the photos link to the member blogs.

It’s simple, it’s fun. It’s cozy.

So, why… ?

Well, I’m back. Still thinking.

Why am I posting about my day?
Because I like reading about other people who are trying to do what I’m trying to do, that is, accomplish a few goals and not let the time waste away. So I figure maybe someone else will want to read about how it goes for me.

I’ve been addicted to productivity blogs for over a year now, but I’m not seeing the results in my day to day life that you might think I would. I’m trying to figure out the reasons for that so I can move forward and, well, get things done. Really done, as in, project complete, on to the next. There are a lot of things I want to do!

Of course, some things in life are never done. The laundry. Planning dinner. Keeping friendships and other relationships thriving. The list of books I want to read! I need to make time for those things, too.
